Knapheide Expansion
Knapheide Truck Equipment Center in Chicago was expanding their inventory and their facility. Reinforcement of their existing structure and new structure was needed to accommodate additional equipment. Equipment such as cranes. Magnum Geo Solutions oversaw the engineering for this project. 122 MH325BR piles were installed outside and inside of the facility to increase the foundation capacity. Slabjack was contacted to provide the equipment for this project.
Description
Strengthening Existing Foundations for Facility Growth
As the Knapheide Truck Equipment Center in Chicago expanded its facility and inventory, the existing foundations needed additional capacity to support both the building expansion and the installation of heavier equipment, including overhead cranes. The project required a foundation solution capable of strengthening existing structural elements while supporting new construction—all with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
The Challenge
Facility expansions often introduce new loading demands that exceed the capacity of existing foundations. At Knapheide, both the existing structure and the new addition required increased foundation capacity to safely accommodate larger equipment and future operational growth. The solution needed to integrate with the existing facility while providing dependable long-term structural support.
The MAGNUM Solution
MAGNUM® supplied 122 MH325BR Helical Piles, each installed to a depth of approximately 30 feet, to reinforce the existing structure and support the facility expansion.
The helical piles were installed both inside and outside the building, allowing the foundation system to be strengthened without extensive excavation or major disruption to operations. MAGNUM Geo Solutions provided the foundation engineering support for the project, while Slabjack supplied the installation equipment needed to complete the work efficiently.
The Result
The completed foundation system increased the load-carrying capacity of the facility, allowing Knapheide to safely expand its operations and install heavier equipment with confidence. By utilizing high-capacity helical piles, the project achieved a reliable deep foundation solution that supported both the existing structure and the new addition while helping keep construction on schedule.
